doodlewear 'Tītitipounamu' (January 2024) art print rifleman t shirt by New Zealand digital artist Melina van Wyk. The high-quality t-shirt features a whimsical art print of the rifleman, generally considered to be New Zealand’s smallest bird, wearing noise-cancelling headphones and resting on a branch of kōwhai blossoms. This artwork was digitally drawn and is digitally signed by the artist.
"This digital illustration is dedicated to my autistic son. The drawing features a little New Zealand Tītitipounamu, also known as the Rifleman bird, beloved for its tiny size. The Rifleman reminds me that everyone, no matter how small, has a story to tell, and that we shouldn't make assumptions about anyone. Did you know that children and adults with sensory sensitivity often wear noise-canceling headphones to avoid sensory overload? By blocking out noise and distractions, they can focus better."
Art for a cause: $5 from every Tītitipounamu t-shirt sold will be donated to NELSON NEURODIVERSE YOUTH GROUP
Melina will generously donate $5 from each of her 'Tītitipounamu' t shirts sold to the Nelson Neurodiverse Youth Group.
Melina is a mom who’s all about making a difference in her local Nelson community, especially for neurodiverse youth. Inspired by her 15-year-old son’s journey with autism and ADHD, she teamed up with other parents and an Autism Coach to start a Neurodiverse Youth Group.
Funds raised from the sale of this garment goes straight to supporting the Group’s activities.
“Our Group is a welcoming space where neurodiverse youth can connect and feel included. We’d love for more amazing kids to join us and boost their well-being. It’s all about creating a supportive community and having a blast together!”
