"I created this artwork in late summer 2023 when I was feeling down about the approaching darkness of winter. The drawing aims to spread a little cheer during the dark winter months, featuring the iconic New Zealand fantail/pīwakawaka—one of the most common birds in New Zealand. It is a happy little spirit that brings smiles to many trampers' faces. The drawing also includes the beautiful and cheerful kōwhai blossoms, serving as a greeting to the fantail during the special time between dusk and dawn. This drawing is my little reminder to the world that the light will always find a way."
