doodlewear presents 'Edible New Zealand Plants' (March 2024) high-quality 100% cotton, these large edible plants tea towel feature an art print by NZ Wildlife Artist Auntie Betty Illustration. These decorative tea towels showcase a stylised realism portrayal of various plants native to New Zealand, each with edible properties. Starting from the top left and moving right, the featured plants include horopito (leaves, medicinal), pikopiko (young koru shoots), and puha (stems, leaves). The second band from the top displays pirita vine (shoots), kawakawa (leaves, medicinal), and karamu (berries). The third band exhibits kotukutuku (fruit), while the fourth band highlights kokihi New Zealand spinach (leaves) and tataromoa (leaves, medicinal). At the bottom are hakeke woodear mushrooms. This artwork was originally painted in watercolour and is digitally signed by the artist.
"I was inspired to create this edible plants tea towel artwork as I am intrigued by how people can survive by foraging. Therefore, I have become very interested in native plants that are safe to eat and nutritious. My grateful thanks to Ang Wickham and Bart Acres for allowing me to paint from their lovely photos."
