"The striking zebra swallowtail butterfly can be found in the USA and Canada. They are not endangered; however, globally, all butterfly species are declining because of the use of pesticides. I also chose to depict the butterflies among lantana, a plant native to Central America. Although lantana flowers are stunningly beautiful, this plant has become an invasive weed in New Zealand and many other parts of the world. Lantana berries are also very toxic to animals. Sometimes it is better for us to enjoy the beauty of a plant or animal species in pictures alone and not introduce them to other habitats."
