"Forget-Me-Not is a digital illustration dedicated to my autistic son. The drawing features a little New Zealand Robin ‘Toutouwai’, nestled amongst ‘Forget-Me-Not’ flowers. The Robin is a protected endemic species and reminds me that everyone, no matter how small, has a story to tell and not to make assumptions about people. Did you know that children and adults with sensory sensitivity wear noise-cancelling headphones to avoid sensory overload by blocking out noise and distractions so that they can focus? My experience with postnatal depression and caring for a child on the autism spectrum got my creative gears turning on how I could help raise awareness. People with autism have a unique view of the world – captured so well by the Māori word for autism 'Takiwātanga' which means in his/her own time and space."
